Educational Generative AI
This lesson will introduce students to artificial intelligence (AI) and explain how large language models and generative AI tools like ChatGPT work. Explore the ethical implications of using AI, the implications of authorship, and how these tools may be used and regulated in the future. Generative AI has evolved rapidly over the past year, with demand for various AI tools such as chatbots and visual media generators growing. For example, ChatGPT was launched in November 2022 in an attempt to improve natural language processing tasks such as translation, text summarization, and text generation. Five days after its release, ChatGPT surpassed 1 million users. Within two months, it had surpassed 100 million users. Concerns are emerging about the ethical implications of using generative AI, especially in business and education. This Teach-Out brings together University of Michigan experts in communications technology, economics, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, health care, architecture, and law to discuss the impact of generative AI now and in the future. In this Teach-Out you will get answers to the following questions: - What is generative AI and how does it work? - What are the advantages and disadvantages of using generative AI? - What are the ethical and legal implications of using generative AI? - How have society, the economy and education responded to generative AI? - How can generative AI be integrated into society in the future? - How can students use generative AI in their lives?
