Communicating as a Technical Leader
Engineering and technical managers spend much of their day interacting with others. Indeed, research has repeatedly shown that people skills impact a manager’s ability to succeed or fail. Too often, people move into leadership positions without recognizing the need to improve in this area. This course focuses on interpersonal skills such as listening, counseling, nonverbal communication, mentoring, coaching, building trust, and giving feedback. This course can be taken for credit toward CU Boulder’s Master of Engineering in Engineering Management (ME-EM) program, offered on Coursera. The ME-EM program is designed to help engineers, scientists, and technical professionals move into leadership and management positions in the engineering and technical industries. An outcomes-based program with no application requirement, the ME-EM program is ideal for individuals with a wide range of educational and/or professional backgrounds.
