Starting with software engineering best practices and loosely coupled, highly cohesive data microservices, the course will take you through the evolution of a distributed system over time. In the second course you will then learn what is needed to take big data to production, transforming big data prototypes into high quality tested production software. You will measure the performance characteristics of distributed systems, identify trouble areas, and implement scalable solutions to improve performance The specialization concludes with a projects course in which you will use learnings from the first and second courses to build a production-ready distributed system. In this course, you will continue to explore how to develop and implement evidence-based methods for science communication. Here we'll be looking at the softer but no less important side of science communication. We'll cover the basics of human emotion, building connection with your audience through empathy and authenticity, how improv can improve your science communication game, non-verbal communication, and managing adversity in science communication. We'll close with a discussion of how to be an inclusive and trauma-informed science communicator.

In this course, you will explore how to develop and implement evidence-based methods for science communication. We'll discuss major theories of human learning, cognitive phenomena like bias and motivated reasoning that can undermine even the best activities, and the science behind why mis/disinformation spreads so quickly. We'll end with motivational interviewing and a discussion of how to use learning engineering to design educational activities.

In this course, you will explore different modalities of science communication, including oral presentations, written forms of communication, technology, and artistic media, including best practices for each.

Evidence-based effective science communication is increasingly necessary. In this specialization, learn how to engineer science communication activities using evidence from the learning sciences.
