About Specialization Engineering Project Management course
The modern professional environment is highly competitive, constant changes and management complexity. Employees rarely reach management positions without managing one or more projects or a segment of projects early in their careers.
The purpose of this specialization, brought to you by the Rice Center for Engineering Leadership and the team that created Master's program in Engineering Management, - to give you the tools to manage projects more effectively and successfully; to give you a solid foundation of knowledge, skills and confidence that will set you apart from others and give you a competitive advantage as you move into management positions.
This Project Management for Engineering specialization is designed as an introduction to project management. It is intended for engineers who are interested in improving their project management skills in new management position or approaching your first management position. In this specialization, you will prepare key Project Execution Plan documents based on available templates.
Applied learning project
In this specialization, students will examine a specific engineering case study and prepare a project charter, stakeholder engagement matrix, statement of work, work breakdown structure, project schedule, project estimate, project risk matrix, and project cause and effect diagram based on the facts in the case study. Students will also be asked to calculate project progress using the Earned Value method.
