This course examines animals in the context of functional relationships that sociologists call “institutions.” We first look at the use of animals in laboratory research. We then examine the controversial conversion of animals into “livestock” and “meat.” We also explore the views of those who advocate for the abolition of the creation and use of animals as food. Next, we focus on some of the roles of animals in human entertainment, with a particular focus on dog fighting and zoos.
Animals and Institutions is listed in the GenAI.Works courses directory, from University of Colorado.
