About Specialization Active Learning in STEM with Interactive PhET Simulations course
Learn how to engage your students and enhance math and science learning with free virtual labs and simulations created by the PhET Interactive Simulations project (https://phet.colorado.edu/en) at the University of Colorado Boulder. In this specialization, you’ll explore active learning strategies that you can implement in your own classroom, both online and in-person. You’ll also learn how to evaluate learning effectiveness by implementing a simulation-based lesson in your own classroom.
Founded in 2002 by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Carl Wieman, PhET Interactive Simulations creates free simulations for science and mathematics that are based on extensive research into the design of virtual tools for education and their successful application in the classroom.
This specialization will take approximately 8 weeks (at a suggested pace of 2 weeks per course) and 60 work hours and includes four courses:
(1) Introduction to PhET Simulators for STEM Education
(2) Whole Class with PhET for STEM Education
(3) Developing activities using PhET simulations for STEM education
(4) Implementation of PhET activities for STEM education
This specialization is also available in Spanish under the title "Aprendizaje Activo STEM con Simulaciones Interactivas PhET" and in Portuguese under the title "Aprendizagem Ativa STEM com Simulações Interativas PhET".
Applied learning project
In this specialisation you will use PhET simulations to find relevant resources for your own teaching, plan two whole class strategies, revise an assignment in line with the PhET Equity Framework, create your own student task sheet and create a full teacher guide to use with your students or colleagues.
