About Effective Communication Capstone Project course
In the Effective Communication Capstone, students apply lessons in business writing, graphic design, and effective presentation to create a portfolio that demonstrates their writing, design, and presentation skills and expresses their personal brand. The portfolio includes three distinct elements—a written memo, a slide deck, and a presentation—all united by a theme. We provide elements for a basic portfolio, but we also encourage our students to create their own project if they choose. This self-designed Challenge Capstone allows students to meaningfully engage in their world by choosing a project that relates to their current job or by volunteering to write, design, and present for a community organization of their choice. Upon successful completion of the Capstone, students will achieve three primary goals: 1. They will hone their writing, design, and presentation skills and create a portfolio for job search and/or professional application; 2. They will mold these skills into a unique signature style; and, if they choose, 3. They will have a transformative impact on the world around them. Ultimately, the value of a Capstone Portfolio is greater than the sum of its individual parts. Its true purpose is for each student to transform themselves and be their best self. We invite you to discover your talents, and we can’t wait to see the results! This course may be taken for credit toward CU Boulder’s Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS) program, offered on Coursera.
