About Antiracism I course
Antiracism I is an introduction to race and racism in the United States. The primary audience for this course is anyone who is interested in learning about race/racism in the United States but who has never taken a course in critical race or ethnic studies or related fields (indeed, who may not know what critical race or ethnic studies is), who has never read a book about race/racism, or who has not attended a racial equity or diversity training that focuses on race/racism.
In this course you will learn to: - Use and understand contemporary intersectional terminology using the included glossary - Critically discuss the concept of "whiteness" - Recognize the concept of white privilege that all white people possess whether they want it or not, and distinguish between white supremacy as a systemic concept and white supremacists (who are professional racists, like the KKK) - Distinguish between "not racist" and "anti-racist" - Define systemic and institutional racism - Recognize the unequal history of race and racism in the U.S. that has created a racial hierarchy that has disenfranchised Black Americans - Share with others the true foundations of U.S. history, beginning with recognizing settler colonialism and the rewards white people have received through white supremacy and Black oppression - Talk about race and racism - Explain why phrases like “All Lives Matter” and “Blue Lives Matter” are racist - Recognize that anyone can be an antiracist - by dedicating themselves to antiracism, learning the history of racism in the US, and then speaking and acting in an antiracist manner Course Logo Image by Liam Edwards, 06/04/2021.
