About Specialization Introduction to Data Science course

Want to learn more about data science but don’t know where to start? This 4-course specialization from IBM will provide you with the core foundational skills any data science professional needs to prepare you for a career in data science or to further explore the field in depth.

This specialization will introduce you to what data science is and what data scientists do. You will discover the applicability of data science to a variety of fields and learn how data analysis can help you make data-driven decisions. You will find that you can begin your career in this field without prior knowledge of computer science or programming languages: this specialization will give you the foundation you need to explore more deeply to support your career goals.

You will understand concepts such as big data, statistical analysis, and relational databases, and become familiar with various open-source tools and data programs used by data scientists, such as Jupyter Notebooks, RStudio, GitHub, and SQL. You will complete hands-on labs and projects to learn the methodology of solving data science problems and apply the skills and knowledge you gain to real-world data sets.

In addition to a certificate of completion from Coursera, you'll also receive a digital badge from IBM that proves you're an expert in Fundamentals of Data Science.

This Specialization can also be used to obtain IBM Data Science Professional certificate.

Applied learning project

All courses in the specialization contain a variety of hands-on labs and assignments that will help you gain hands-on experience and skills with a variety of datasets and tools like Jupyter, GitHub, and R Studio. Create and share a Jupyter notebook containing code blocks and markup
Think of a problem that can be solved using a data science methodology and explain how to apply each step of the methodology to solve it
